Ever have fears around doing something? Everyone has, and in this episode, James and Phoebe share theirs. They explain how they overcame them, as well as providing listeners a simple exercise on how you can face your own fears, so you can grow into the biggest version of yourself!
This podcast launched in January of this year, and in the first week alone, about 13,000 downloaded the show. Despite the results, both James and Phoebe had big fears around launching the podcast.
James says it was easy to record the episodes, but it was hard to promote it. He says the most uncomfortable point came when he sent the first email to his mailing list to let subscribers know that it had launched. Phoebe had fears around how she would sound behind the microphone.
In addition to the podcast, Phoebe recently moved back to the United States and got a new place in San Francisco. She didn’t know anyone in the city, as well as the housing costs being amongst the highest in the country.
For years, James has wanted to host a mastermind group for high-level, highly paid extraordinary entrepreneurs. On a tight time schedule, he finally overcame his fear and recently launched it. He considers it “the lightest, easiest, most fun and incredible experience”, despite the initial fears he faced around it.
The purpose of fear is to protect you, but if you’re an entrepreneur, fear is inevitable. When we place fear on the action we are looking at taking, your ego will do whatever it takes to keep you inside a “safe box”. Entrepreneurship is about thinking and living outside of that box.

Here is an exercise that you can do to start overcoming your fears. First, write down a list of 10 things that scare you (particularly focusing on the top three). Examples could be public speaking, reaching out to an influencer in your industry, getting on a podcast or creating your first course. After identifying your fears, acknowledge that they exist, accept them and even thank them. These two steps alone will have you on your way to become the bigger version of yourself.
